I am Dylan Dang, and I graduated from the University of Washington Bothell in June 2024, with a IMD and MCS degress. I am an aspiring UI designer and animator. I graduated from high school not knowing what to do, so I went to South Seatle College in 2018 hoping to find my passion. I was there for two years before I tried to transfer to UW Bothell in 2020. However, I failed to transfer. I ended up taking a break for that fall quarter and in that break, I started to work on my art.
I was then able to enter the following winter quarter. I transferred to the Media and Communications Studies major and started to build this portfolio. I wanted to do more the just media and communications so I applied to the Interactive Media Design Major using this portfolio as part of the submission. However, I got rejected.
I continued with MCS for another year. After that, I decided to try to reapply to IMD to see if I could get in with a more updated portfolio. About a month after I submitted it I got a response and I was rejected again. I told my family I didn’t make it. I thought to myself maybe it wasn’t meant to be. So I decided to finish college the next year. A month later I got an email from the department and they said that they reconsidered my application and decided to let me into the program. I couldn’t believe what I read, I was so excited. It was also awkward since my family thought I was rejected.
